Konea 244 at Honua Kai, Lahaina

Disappointing

To celebrate our 1 yr anniversary, we made a no-brained decision to come to Maui. Historically we stay next door at the Westin, but wanted to try something different after having walked by the Honua Kai several times prior. We were excited to find this condo and read so many wonderful reviews about the facility and even the owners. While the condo location is great, the cleanliness and overall condition of the condo is less than what was depicted upon booking.

1) the condo had a strong musty/moldy odor which persisted from check-in and throughout our entire stay - despite the opening of the Nana wall and use of ceiling fans.

2) the shower/bathroom is not as clean as the photos depict. There’s mold around the bottom of the shower and again an unpleasant odor in the bathroom.

4) the bathroom doors are warped, dirty and have hardware rusting.

3) the kitchen is missing drawer hardware - a minor nit-picky item.

4) the walls have stains, dings and dust on them (not just baseboards as would be expected).

5) the couch smells terrible and had black stains all over the arms and cushions; most likely from guests resting their wet drinks on them.

6) a couple of lightbulbs were burnt out although we were able to find spare bulbs.

7) the owners ask that you not change the HVAC schedule, and unfortunately at around 11pm every night we’d wake up sweating in stifling heat because the AC would turn up to 76 degrees.

Overall, the owners were fine to work with and accommodating, however I would not book this condo again. It was a disappointing condo overall given the occasion and the money spent.
