Very good structure with a big room and comfortable beds. All is veryclean and tidy and the staff most helpful and friendly. Breakfast verygood and excellent location just by Haymarket Station and close to thebeautiful St. Mary Church.

A very comfortable and beautiful hotel near the centre of town. The friendliness of the stuff was very welcome and continental breakfast was plentiful.Fire alarm going off in room for no reason.Broken wardrobe.Cheese out of date at breakfast.

The staff in this hotel could not have been more helpful. The breakfastwas very good and the room was very comfortable. The location wasexcellent for visiting the main city and was convenient for the airportbus and main bus routes.The Balantrae West hotel itself is fine but not very 'visible' due toblack signage outside. My single 'duplex' room wasn't really comfortableor convenient (the bathroom was down stairs) - only one coathanger, nowardrobe, broken sash window etc No dislikes about Ballantrae East.

Very helpful and friendly staff (especially girl at the reception who helped us a lot). The hotel located in a beautiful old building with nice surroundings, close to Princes street (around 2 min walk) and Edinburgh Castle (around 10 min walk). Nice and quiet area. Our room had a garden view and was very calm (with birds singing in the miorning). Good breakfast.We certanly would stay here again.

Easy to get to from Haymarket Station, walking distance to Princes St, etc.My room was comfortable & clean.Nice view out the back over gardens.Breakfast is simple.

I think my stay was exceptional because the hotel was not full and I wasgiven a lovely room at the side of the courtyard. Very traditional room,very spacious with such a wonderful view that one could just have stayedin the room enjoying that view. I do not know the other room therefore Ido not know if my room was normal or an exception. Friendly staff, nicebreakfast room and sufficient choice for breakfast.

Staff were welcoming and informative.Breakfast seemed to be the same plates of food put out every day.Plates of meat & cheese covered with foil & stacked on top of each other.Looked like they were just put back out each day.Croissants also stale & inedible.I only ate what I was sure was fresh & there was only a small selection of that.Other than that the only problem I had was the heater in my bathroom had no control & was on full all the time. Washing dried well though!

Good location within walking distance of City Centre and Railway stationThe shower facility in room 4 was rubbish.Somebody before must have complained about it but nothing was done. Abysmal.

Hotel quite convenient for railway stationRoom 2 had and opening window out onto as roof balcony which coiuld beaccessed from any of the houses on the whole terrace and it did not havea window lock. The breakfast was very basic with plastic Cheese inpackets not nice only had cereal and toast on the second day.

Very friendly and helpful staff, good location close to airport bus stop,railway stationand a wide range of eating places within 5 mins walk.There was a leak in the ceiling, then when we changed rooms you only had 1 double bed, rather than they preferred twin room.

Nice quiet rooms. Imposing lounge and breakfast room Half way through mystay I was moved from Ballantrae West End (my room there was notluxurious or specially comfortable) to Ballantrae East End, which wasexcellent. West is near Haymarket Station and East is situated not toofar from Waverley Station. Staff sorted out problems immediately.Continental breakfast was fine.

Staff very welcoming and friendly.Nothing was too much trouble - helpful at all times.Relaxed atmosphere - lounge facility was available to our group of mixed age visitors to allow us to socialise together.Windows could not be opened enough to air the room at all - major inconvenience for me. No handles for hanging your towel in the bathroom, obvious non maintenance in tho room (detached hall light .). It's a pitty, because it wouldn't take much money but would make a lot of difference.
